TERC Canada was
invited to teach the St Lawrence College pre
firefighter program the finer points of airbag and
hybrid technology in new vehicles.
Bill Davies, TERC
Canada Vice Chairman, spent the morning with the
keenly interested students, and Tim Tedford, TERC
member from the Elizabethtown Kitly Fire Department,
led selected students through several rescue
evolutions using a new GMC Envoy provided by GM
Canada. This was a great way to start them off on
the right foot, and show them what tough
extrications are all about. The training day was
arranged by Gary Ruttley, the course coordinator for
the College. There were also firefighters from local
halls in attendance.
On May the third a small
Challenge and training symposium was held at
Fonthill Station number 1.
TERC Canada provided a short update on new vehicle
technology, and then the participants braved
significant rain to do their scenarios, laid out by
Ken Niceliu. Those not competing got to attend the
HOT PITS and take apart a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox
donated by General Motors of Canada. It was
determined that a dash lift was much more successful
than trying to roll the dash with a ram, as getting
a good bite was an issue. Overall a good day was had
by all.
